Why: Awards
- 1st - $2500 scholarship
- 2nd - $1500. scholarship
- 3rd - $1000 scholarship
- 4th and 5th scholarships in lesser amounts
- Student with the highest score advances to Regional Competition (5 district winners) - $5000 scholarship to winner
- Each regional winner advances to World Championship - $15,000 scholarship
Eligibility UPDATE: Contest is free. Contestants must be under 19 as of October 1. 2019 AND NOT enrolled as a degree seeking student of post secondary education. There is no minimum age. Interested youth submit a speech on the topic to their local optimist club and participate in the Club Level Contest.
Optimist International Contests: Winners at the District (State) Level can participate in the Regional Contest for Scholarships. Winners at the Regional Contest can receive larger scholarships. (Previous District Winners are NOT eligible to compete again).
Sponsorship: Club winners are sponsored by the club at the District Contest. The Oratorical Contest scholarships are sponsored by the Optimist International Foundation to give young people the opportunity to speak about their own opinions regarding the world in which they live.
Requirements: Speech is limited to 4-5 minutes.
